What is SuperMums and why it was created: the story behind a community of strength, motherhood and support in Brussels
When you arrive in a new country pregnant or holding a tiny baby in your arms, everything feels overwhelming. The loneliness, the language, no family or close friends around, your body changing, your routine upside down… In the middle of all that, finding a space where you feel welcome, supported and encouraged to take care of yourself can feel like a miracle. That’s exactly how SuperMums was born: a project that has been changing the motherhood experience for expat mums in Brussels for over eight years.

Many expat women after a SuperMums class in Belgium and her babies happy and cheering up.
How SuperMums started: from fitness teacher to supporting expat mums in Brussels
The story of SuperMums started long before the official name appeared. Its founder, Beatriz, began teaching fitness classes when she was just 16. Her passion for movement and helping others led her to study Physical Education and then Teaching, leaning more into the world of education.
Her life has been full of movement: from London to Aveiro, Portugal, to the United States, and finally to Belgium. She worked here as a teacher in her first year, then moved into psychomotricity. All the while, she kept training hard and giving fitness classes. Slowly, she noticed a pattern:
“Mums kept asking me, ‘How do I train now that I’m a mum?'”
That question sparked something. There was clearly a need. Not just for exercise, but for something safe, effective and made for mums. Beatriz decided to bring together her two passions — fitness and motherhood — and created SuperMums. A place to move, grow stronger and feel like yourself again.
Why expat mums in Brussels choose SuperMums
At the time, nothing like this existed in Belgium. There was yoga, yes, but not really results-focused, and more of a relaxed social moment. SuperMums was designed differently: to help mums feel stronger, see progress, learn how to train, and enjoy the process.
What makes the classes unique
- Classes for every stage: prenatal, postnatal phase 1, 2, 3… because your needs at 6 weeks after birth are not the same as at 6 months. There is real care in the structure.
- We use weights — even during pregnancy — but always safely. We teach you how to engage your pelvic floor and use your breathing properly so your body works as a whole. We also believe in the importance of strength training for women at every stage of life, because after the age of 30, we naturally start losing around 1% of muscle mass per year, and that adds up quickly if we don’t stay active.
- Small groups of 8 to 10 mums: classes feel personal. You get attention, support, and lots of laughs.
- A real follow-up: not a random 8-week programme and goodbye. There is a clear path, phases, and progression. It’s not just a class; it’s a journey.
- Fun and good vibes: the music is full of energy — Latin, Brazilian, reggaeton. Even warm-ups include dancing! The sessions are sweaty and joyful because our coaches (Beatriz, Diana, Sofia and Gloria) are fun, friendly, and they’ll push you just enough to make sure you’re working hard and having a great time.
Support and connection for new mums in Brussels
SuperMums is not a gym. It’s a community. And that’s what makes all the difference, especially when you’re far from home and figuring out motherhood.
Why the community matters
- Because you’re not just another mum here. You’re seen. We are a family :)
- Because you share space with other expat mums going through the same thing: missing family, struggling with sleep, craving connection.
- Because we’re here for your whole journey, physically and emotionally.
And something magical happens: mums who never liked exercise before end up falling in love with strength training. Because, for once, it’s done in a way that makes sense for them.
SuperMums Brussels: a growing community for mums
SuperMums is now so well structured and loved that it’s a total success. Because what Beatriz created is more than just a class; it’s a method, a mindset, and a movement. It has heart, experience and a whole lot of joy.
